Necklace - Moonbeam
Ceramic Earrings - Square Drops
1.25” x .75” x 1/8”
Lightweight, delicate and striking wearable art. All of my jewelry is sustainable sourced from the clay scraps after producing functional pottery, rendering them utterly unique. It is truly what makes this medium such a delight and joy to work with, for me as an artist.
Reclaimed clay
Handpainted with Lead free Glazes on front and back
Fired to Cone 6 Oxidation
Reclaim Clay Process
I combine the bucket of wet slop from throwing with my bucket of bone dry trimmings, submerging the dry into the wet and allowing that to sit overnight.
I blend this slurry together with an electric drill meant for mixing plaster. This blended slurry is then poured into forms lined with pillow cases, and sits covered but open to the air so it can slowly dry to a workable consistency.
The clay reclamation process is a dirty sloppy endeavor, that results in a gorgeous marbled clay body that is a rainbow of brown, black, red & white (depending on what clay bodies I have been throwing for my functional pottery).
Bisque Fire & Glaze Fire
This marbled clay body is shaped and then fired to bisque. These bisqued pieces are then glazed and fired to an even higher temperature 2200°F (1200°C). The alchemical transformation results in pieces that are truly unique.
